Tattoo After Care

For proper tattoo healing, we recommend using a light, fragrance-free lotion to keep the skin hydrated without clogging pores. Great options include unscented Lubriderm, Eucerin, CeraVe, or plain cocoa butter—avoid anything scented, medicated, or petroleum-heavy. After gently washing your tattoo with mild, unscented soap and patting it dry, apply a very thin layer of lotion. Your tattoo should never look shiny or wet—less is more. Apply lotion 2–3 times a day, or anytime the tattoo feels tight or dry, for the first 2–3 weeks. Over-applying can cause irritation or slow healing, so keep it clean, lightly moisturized, and let your body do the rest.

During the healing process, it’s normal for the tattoo to flake and peel—similar to a mild sunburn. You may also experience some itching, light scabbing, and slight dullness before the tattoo brightens back up. Do not pick or scratch at any flaking skin, as this can cause scarring or ink loss.

Avoid sun exposure completely while your tattoo is healing. Fresh tattoos are highly sensitive to UV rays, which can cause fading and damage to the skin. Once healed, always use a high-SPF sunscreen on your tattoo to preserve its longevity. Also, avoid working out or activities that cause excessive sweating for at least one week, as sweat and friction can interrupt the healing process. Treat your tattoo like an open wound—it deserves gentle, consistent care for the best results.
