How does pricing work for tattoos?
Pricing varies and depends upon the size of the tattoo, space to be covered, and amount of saturation or detail required by the design. If the tattoo is smaller than half a page it will be priced at the square inch rate. The first square inch is our $60 minimum and then every square inch after that is at the given rate. Generally, we price our work either by square inch or by the hour for larger pieces.
Black and grey: $20/square inch
Full color: $20/square inch
Coverups: $25/square inch
High Detail: $25/square inch
Hourly rates vary per artist

Do you design my art before our appointment?
We do not design anything prior to an appointment. At American Gypsy Tattoo, we value the collaborative effort behind a tattoo. Part of the process is our design time and we only design in the presence of the client so they can be involved in the end product. The design is free of charge and we won't create a design until you are ready to get the tattoo
Do you require a deposit to schedule an appointment?
We do not accept deposits, except in extreme cases, where a client has stood us up on previous appointments.
Should I expect a wait when I come in for my scheduled appointment?
We do our best to schedule ourselves so as not to leave clients waiting too long for their turn. However, we cannot rush the client in the chair, nor can we accurately determine how long each session will take. Our goal is to serve each client best while they are in our chair, and usually that requires more time than anticipated. Please wait patiently for your turn, knowing that we will serve you with the same care and attention.
How do I care for my tattoo?
We recommend a natural and lanolin-free lotion, such as Lubriderm, shea butter or coconut oil. Oils and lotions tend to absorb into the area and moisturize the skin. Petroleum based treatments aren't recommended because they tend to sit on top of the skin and leave it greasy and wet. If scabbing occurs, don't pick at the scab. Don't scratch your tattoo when it gets itchy. Instead apply lotion and rub it if needed.
How do I care for my piercing?
Handling and over-cleaning your piercing are the two most common causes of issues related to piercings. If you need to knock off the "crustees" from your piercing, use a Q-tip with saline solution. Other than that, you should leave your piercing alone. Don't rotate it or touch it as it heals. Less is better when it comes to caring for a piercing.
How long does it take for a tattoo to heal?
Several factors such as health of skin, sun damage, age, amount of saturation and detail affect the healing process. Most tattoos will be healed in 7 to 10 days. Others may take as long as three weeks.
How do touchups work?
Touch-ups are included in the initial price of a tattoo and are good for six months after. It is common for tattoos to heal imperfectly at times and we expect each client to allow us the opportunity to touch up our work. We are perfectionists and like our work to be at its best. If something isn't perfect after it has healed, please schedule with us for your touch-up.
Can I get a tattoo if I am under 18 years of age?
Texas law requires an individual to be over the age of 18 in order to get a tattoo. However, if you are under age and you already have a tattoo, that your parent wants covered, the law permits it, with parental permission.
What do I need to get a tattoo or piercing?
Your I.D. If you are underage, a parent with an I.D. must be present and you have to have some for of identification, such as a State I.D. or a birth certificate.
What is the minimum price for tattoos?
$60. This covers any one color and no larger than one square inch in size. This is to cover costs of set up.
Do I get to pick the artist that works on me?
Yes. Tattoos are a personal experience and we want each client to be comfortable with their artist. Each artist manages their own schedule, so scheduling and availability will be different depending on your choice of artist. If you have a preference of artist, please say so when you contact us, or we will assume you have no preference.
